Firefighters/Paramedics/ EMT's Don't save lives

We prevent people from dying before their time. It's God who decides who lives or dies. Anyone who has worked an arrest that you were sure they would come back and they don't (despite your best efforts). Or the person that you didn't think had a snowballs chance in hell of making it one day shows up at your station with cookies. How about the times you hear from the doctor "One centimeter to the left or right and they would have died" . And last but not least those people that were at the exact wrong place at the wrong time and were killed by a falling object or a struck by a car that just happened to go off the road in just the wrong spot. Or crashed hitting the only tree for miles.

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining. It just helps me deal with it all. When someone doen't surrvive, I know It was not meant to be ( Idon't need to beat myself up for not doing something different) But on the other hand I can't take the credit for a great save. I'm okay with that.

Firesiren_ BTW please don't be offended. I really respect your opinions and I hope If you and I have to agree to disagree on this one I hope you hang around. To many people don't care enough about anything to have an opinion of their own. : )

Firesiren- Your confusing death with some kind of punishment.

Firesiren, I'm not trying to convert anyone. I'm sure you make a big difference everyday. How we handle ourselves makes all the difference even in our failures. Have you ever lost a person after working your ass off and one of family members look you in your eyes and thank you for trying so hard. The difference between you and I. I can't take the credit for the ones we save. And as long as I do my best and the person dosen't make it. I don't have to carry the weight of that burden. How do you explain when the person your treating dies. Did you do good enough CPR? Did you call it to soon? did you take to long getting to the scene? maybe you pushed the wrong drugs? Was it your fault? If there is no God then we humans are the supreme beings. (that is harder for me to believe than in the allmighty)

I have to admit that when I first saw the title I was confused. However, you are right and I agree with you that is the only way I can handle the kids that die and the druggies that live. Stay safe.
