Download and review with your personnel the following manufacturer Emergency Response Guides for hybrid, fuel cell, and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles.
You will find that there are several tasks that are common:
Immobilizing the vehicle by blocking the wheels, place the vehicle into 'park', turn vehicle 'off' and place standard keys on the dash. Keyless start will require the keys to be 15 feet or greater from the vehicle.
Stabilize the vehicle with cribbing or other equipment should extrication be required.
Disable the vehicle by disconnecting the battery cables. Do not cut ORANGE color coded cables - those are high voltage!
When you turn off the ignition to a hybrid vehicle, in general, you:
Shut down the system.
The fuel pump stops operating
All high voltage from the high voltage battery pack has been isolated.
Electrical flow to the SRS and been stopped.
High voltage capacitors can hold the electrical charge for up to 10 minutes after a vehicle shut down. Consider all orange coded cables to be energized until proven otherwise.
