Anyone who lives in Florida knows that the tax reform referendum is coming up on January 29th. Anyone in emergency services or public education also knows that what is being proposed is not going to help home owners and will endanger jobs.
I've been reading the local news publications and the comments posted on their websites are alarming. Many ignorant individuals believe that Florida's tax problems are due mostly to the wages that firefighters are being paid. Some go so far as to compare fire unions to the Teamsters of the Jimmy Hoffa era. The reality is that Florida's problems lay with a faulty system. Tax Reform was supposed to fix that, not just put a bandage on it until the election year is over. How the new governor could possibly say that he is going to cut taxes without affecting local government is beyond me.
Anyway, here is a link to the Save Our Services website. It has information on the proposed tax reform and what it actually is going to do to education and emergency services. Oh, did I mention that the big tax savings is going to be $20 a month to homeowners?? This is a stunning example of crooked politics and misaligned trust in our state leadership.

For anyone outside of Florida, you should pay attention to this. If this tax reform is passed here, politicians will start peddling the idea elsewhere. Just a concerned and friendly warning.
Stay safe
