Toronto firefighter killed in collision

A Toronto firefighter was killed in a motorcycle collision in Peterborough this morning.

Peterborough Police were called to Parkhill Rd., between Armour Rd. and Auburn St., around 6:05 a.m. to investigate an accident involving a motorcycle and another vehicle.

Firefighter Steve Van Hemme, 37, was killed in the crash, Toronto Fire Capt. Mike Strapko said.

Van Hemme, an eight-year veteran with Toronto Fire Services, worked out of Station 322.
