So I was doing my Sunday Pop Warner EMT work.. The next thing I know I am being yelled at for a kid across the street got ran over by a truck.. I was thinking it was a pick up.. Then I saw it.. A Cab of a TT unit.. Well so I then take off running across the street.. When I get there there is this young boy on the ground. .Body was a mess.. Pelvis hip leg fx. He had a plus weak and was breathing but shitty... We lost his pulse. We started CPR and got a pulse back weak and thready.. He started to posture... Finally after about 4-5 min ALS got on scene.. The boy didnt make it but he is probally better off.... What a shitty day.

Yes it was a hard call.. I have have done so many.. I found this one to be the hardest due to it being the first pedi trauma code i have done since the birth of my son... I will say the best thing to happen to this field since I got on was the creation of CISD Teams.. Tey help the work.. Use them..

you never forget the worst of calls, but it is important to learn from them and grow as a provider. Talking about it with other providers that were there is also good.

Remember that you are important and taking care of your needs after the call must be a priority. Never be ashamed to ask for help if you feel that you need it!

this is one of the down sides to our job. i have a discussion going on christian firefighters entitled we did all we could do. it never gets any easier, but you owe it to yourself to talk it out. my prayers are with you

Sorry to hear you had to see that. That is the unfair thing about this job....we have to see what no other human being should have to see. They never get any easier but at least they are rare and this is about the worst you will have to deal with.

If you need to chat, let me know. God bless you "Brother".
