There has been a 50 per cent reduction in fires for the year so far, when compared to the same period last year.
That glowing report card was presented by acting sub-officer responsible for the fire prevention unit, Henderson Patrick yesterday.
Recent statistics from the Barbados Fire Service (BFS) show that there were 1 102 fires up to yesterday, compared to 2 111 for the same period last year, and 1 548 in 2007.

he Barbados Fire Service values the public's assistance in fighting fires but that help must come under the guidance of its officers.
Divisional Officer Randolph Cox said civilians were not allowed to take up and use any of the service's equipment.

Health officials have given the all clear at the Bridgetown port after a scare Wednesday morning involving a crew member from the cruise ship, Carnival Victory.
A female crew member was quarantined after discovering that she was exhibiting signs of influenza.

The Caribbean Fire Service fraternity will gather tomorrow on the island of Dominica in a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Julien Baptiste former Chief Fire Officer of the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Service.

Members of the Barbados Fire Service joined family and friends in a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Duncan Chesterfield Walcott BSM (retired Station Officer) at the St. John Parish Church on Tuesday.

One woman was injured in a blaze at Gall Hill, Christ Church, that destroyed one house and damaged another yesterday morning.
Cordella Burgess reportedly sustained burns to her shoulder, back and leg, after the rented two-bedroom house she shared with her sister Carmen and their five children caught fire.
