The training we recieved when I was a rookie isnt even taught any more. Im grandfathered in most. Medical is updated. I am Mich.med first responder, retired cpr instructor
About Me:
In 30 years I have been asst chief, safety officer capt and leut. When I started we owned 3 air packs and no one used them! now we have 30 and every one must use them.We have 2 engines 2 tanker/pumpers,2 brush rigs 2 rescue units and a boat. all our personell are rquired to operate everything.PLEASE NOTE, My opinion on this subject is very strong.Training classes like ff1&2 are very necessary BUT to many depts are forgetting their in house training and sending porly prepaired rookies into things they arnt ready for! class room can not take the place of firegroung experience.
they Must go hand in hand. let the rookies be gofers and helpers on scene.let then get used to the confusion and all the shit on scene befor they are required to act. Every one use to train their own new ff"s where the hell do you think the criculum for the classes came from?
