NREMT-B for 10 years before getting my NREMT-P. I have been with the same company for the past 15 years.
About Me:
As I have said before I have been in EMS for the past 25 years. I have seen many changes--some for the better but some of them we could definately do without. EMS took on a different and better light for me when my son became a firefighter 2 years ago. He works in the same town as I do and it has been fun watching him grow as a firefighter and to also run calls with him. He is now taking EMT classes and should graduate in Dec. He also works part-time with the same ambulance service as I do so having his EMT license will be an added bonus.
The usual response of wanting to help people when sick or injured goes for me too but I also like the unpredictability of the profession. Each and every call has something unique about it and that makes things interesting--sometimes too interesting.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
I actually make a difference in some people's lives.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
I feel like the biggest issue is the pay. EMS/Firefighter personnel works long hours--many under adverse conditions--for a lot less than the average person is making And these people are not even making life and death decisions or being put in harms way. I have also seen an increase over the years of EMS abuse. Why is it that people call EMS for every little thing. A 4 day history of nausea or 3 day history of hand pain in most cases does not constitute needing an ambulance-- especially at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning. Go POV to see your private MD in the morning. I guess you can tell this is my soapbox.
If that little disturbance does pick up, hopefully it won't get too bad. But, like you said, we do need the rain, especially up here. Have a safe trip.
Welcome to FFN. Thanks for adding me. How are ya? Hopefully good. Stay safe & have a good weekend!

Thank you. It has been hard here. EArlier this year we had four officers killed and now the firefighters. It has been a bad year. I know that I appreciate and i know that Charleston does also all the prayers that people have sent our way. be safe and God bless

Check out the some of the Groups, I have started up "Close Calls" an area to tell your story of what you did and should not of so others learn. "Roll Calls" this is another group that allows you to tell us about your station and district. "Trainers Corner" is another area that you can read about issues other trainers have or deal with. As well if your not a trainer you can ask questions or state concerns you have. If you have a hard time locating them just go to my site and look at the bottom left hand corner.
