When I started dating my boyfriend, he was a volunteer firefighter/EMT for CVFD. I would go on calls with him at all times of the day but I would have to stay in the truck while he went to the scene. I got so tired of that. I just got to thinking that I am another person who is sitting here in this truck doing nothing, when I could be out there helping save someone's life. I mean I go to almost every call with him anyway, why not join and make good use of the extra person who if not in the truck would probably be asleep or at home watching tv or something. so I joined CVFD. I have now completed the EMT-Basic class at Alabama Fire College and I am currently applying for jobs as a paid EMS worker. To this day, I find myself loving every minute of learning how to put out fires and helping people when they cannot help themselves. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me to become the person that I did not know I could be. I will always be a proud volunteer!
Why I Love Fire/EMS
unlike some other people that I know........I love to get up in the middle of the night and go help someone who's been in a wreck, fire or someone who just fell out of the bed! I guess its the rookie in me but I won't get burnt out on it!
Top Issues Facing Responders:
One of the issues that I personally have with the fire department is the fact that CVFD requires a person to be atleast 25 years of age before they will be allowed to drive a firetruck. I do not have any want to drive a truck, but I know several people in this dept. who drive 18 wheel trucks, dump trucks & ambulances at the young age of 21 . why not a fire truck?
