About Me:

I started towards my goal of being a paid firefighter when I was 30. Most places in central Illinois won't hire you after 34-35. I didn't know that at the time. I'm now 39. Anybody know of places hiring an "old" guy? I have 1 son who is in college, and a dog who is a few months shy of 16 years old.

Why I Joined Fire/EMS

Wanted to since I was a kid. I had a career changing moment that gave me the chance to start working towards this. I like doing what others are scared of. We go in when others are going out, right?

Top Issues Facing Responders:

Trying to stay up on the current "right" way to assess and give treatment. The state tells us one thing, and 6 months to a year later it might be changed back to the previous way.
