well what are you doing now Liz,because there are so many jobs to do on the fire scene both inside and out .If you are just an exterior firefighter that doesnt mean you are not still working just as hard as any other firefighter on scene..You can help with airpacks ,help with ventilation PPE,help with the setting up of apparatus and all kinds of things....Believe me I have been in this line of work for many years now and there is plenty of work for everybody at a fire scene and dont forget after all the fun is over (lol) you can be a great asset to your fire company by doing one of the jobs that most dont want to do .That job being the cleanup of equipment reloading hose, overhaul. There is definitely plenty to do for everyone.
Hey Liz I got your message I would start by saying i am no longer an EMT ,I am just a first responder currently. Only you can determine if you want to be an EMT that is a lot of classwork and a lot of hours, but if you want it I say go for it ..But i tell you what even if you do not want to be an interior firefighter there are plenty of other jobs to do on the fire scene other than being the inside crew.
