I'm only 5'2", 110lbs, but still if I can do it, you can too! I believe that 1/2 of this job is determination.

CAFS is compressed air foam system. Many of our drivers/operators don't even know how to run it. Its funny to watch them try to read the directions and get it set up. I wanted to take it so that we would have more ppl familiar with it. We hardly ever run foam and we should be running it on almost everything. We have old foam at the station from 1989! It was on the 14th in Chaska, sponsored by NSWFA.
Judi, we have not had a live burn in a while. I think the last one that you are thinking of, Kim was there to take pics? I work as a Paramedic for Allina. The northern territory covers from Roseville up to Anoka and from Coon Rapids over to Vadnais Heights. The southern territory covers from Sand Creek Twnshp up to Bloomington and from Jordan over to Prior Lake. In the south, our Bloomington area butts right up next to the Eden Prairie area and we sometimes do mutual aid or go on calls together if they are on the line. I am still on my 2nd person probie period but I am about to be finished soon. We can have riders once off probation. Asst. Chief Morse is a pretty good guy. Did you meet at the convention? I was on shift and my partner said that we could maybe head up that way, but then we started off our shift with our first peds arrest and things didn't go as planned.
Megan,
I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work for Eden Prairie.
I find that this department is extremely supportive, positive, fantastic weekly trainings and all around really good people.
We really are a family.
We have 4 stations and 1 chief and 4? assistant chiefs. I could be wrong. We have fulltime fire investigators and fire marshall and one support staff person.
We are paid on call but do get paid for trainings and extra details too.
If you ever get in the area, let me know!

Waconia is a small volunteer dept of 34 members. We are also quickly becoming a very young dept. as many veteran FFs are retiring and with new ppl starting. I got on in Dec. 06 and already there are six ppl below me. We get paid for calls that we make, but not for trning, comm. service, etc. Some of the higher positions such as Chief, Asst Chief receive a very small payment for their work, something like $1,000/yr. Some of the obstacles that we are facing are ppl not wanting to train, go to schools, do anything extra. We have leadership positions open in our dept because we don't have enough depth or ppl who are/feel qualified to step into them. Lack of comraderie is also an obstacle. What's EP like?
