My Training:
FFI, FFII, EMT-B, CEVO II, Low angle rescue, ice rescue, wildland FF red card, Rope Rescue....
About Me:
The only thing that I know for sure, is that I don't know everything. I learn something new every day, on runs, in training, or in life.
Day Job:
Retired from business. currently Sheriff Deputy HVL
It all started the night that the fire department and life squad came to help my father when he had a massive heart attack. He did not make it. I remember how helpless I felt just watching, and how I always wanted to help people but didn't know how. That night showed me how I could help people that need help. (June 6 1980 Just over a month of my sixteenth birthday)
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Helping People
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Underfunded rural departments that have fewer and fewer volunteers volunteering. So all you young guys and gals put away the vidio games get off you but and volunteer.
Hi Jim- what's new?? Not much here. We did have a second structure fire (at the same address)...
Apparently, the owner didn't like what the insurance adjuster had to say earlier in the day. It was pretty ridiculous; the neighbors were literally sitting in their lawn chairs across the street when we arrived.
Anyways...
Has your daughter turned in her app for vol at Alva?? We've had a couple of new vols putting in time but haven't seen her yet....
Take care.
Hey Jim heard you stopped by the station on MON. Did Joey answer all your questions?? I guess he's starting to revamp the Vol program a bit; not sure to what extent, but let me know if you & your daughter decide anything. Take care & talk to you soon...
Im sorry If its just EMT she needs she can also talk to Edison University (Community College)
Also like Dave said she can start out by volunteering either there at alva or there are a couple other dept's that have vol.
Hi there Jim,
My name is David & I'm a FF/EMT for the Alva Fire & Rescue Service District E of Ft. Myers, FL. I saw one of your postings to my buddy Robert's page, inquiring about vol/explorer programs down here. Our district is one of those that is combination paid/vol.
In a nutshell: there are, of course, some limitations on vol scope of practice (unless they are State/NREMT/FF certified), but we allow them to do as much as they are comfortable with.
Any questions, contact me.
welcome too firefighter nation be safe and take care

In FL you can be a fulltime Vol. of Paid at the age of 18. or she can be an Explorer from 15-21. What ever she would like to do. I started as an explorer and it was just like vol. but you cant touch pt's. We have about 2 - 3 vol. districts here in Lee county. If she is intrested let me know.
