I am a certified EMT, Hazardous Materials Technician, I am trained in Incident Command-IS100,200, 300,700, 800. I have taken Leadership and Company Tactical Operations courses as well as Volunteer Fire Service Management Course work. I am in the middle of earning my Associates Degree in Fire Protection Technology. I recently attended the FEMA HSEEP training offered by NYSEMO. Fire Fighter I and Heavy Rescue I. National Certified Fire Service Instructor I.
About Me:
Fire Fighter since 1982 and an EMT since 1983. I have been a member of Volunteer fire departments over the last 25 years, currently with the Ridge Fire Department for the last 20. I have held EMS officer positions for 4 years and Engine Company Officer from Lt. to Captain for 6 years. I am presently the Assist. Chief as well as the Department Exposure Control Officer. I am currently a division coordinator for the Suffolk County Community Emergency Response Team. NY SEMO CERT Trainer.

Top Issues Facing Responders:
Training and Communication are the two single most important issues facing our Fire Service today. When it comes to Volunteers, recruitment and retention needs to be added to the above two issues. Todays volunteers require more training and more time to get that training. Due to the cost of living in areas with in this country, Volunteers need to work multiple jobs in order to make ends meet. Some thing needs to be done to assist the Volunteer Fire Departments with helping their members stay members.
