However the laws in Portugal physician legal validity and protocols defined for training in pre-hospital emergency, are established in basic life support for operational undifferentiated, who are the majority within the national pre-hospital as soon as invasive techniques considered medical procedures are not practiced by these professionals.
The original ITLS-Basic in the United States due to a very different reality in this field teaches Life Saving maneuvers considered medical acts in Portugal, and once again the recognition and accreditation of this training program would be impossible, due to not suit both legal and technically in Portugal, hence the idea of creating a program BTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support) and adapted to Portuguese Portuguese reality or to the laws regarding medical and legal protocols for the conduct and training in emergency the prehospital environment.
The first trainers BTLS-Portugal was formed in 2007 operating in a combined course / trainer, in order to create training centers in Lisbon and Setúbal.
