About Me:
BTLS-Portugal was founded in 2007, based on basic life support in trauma in the prehospital environment. Its roots are defined as a continuing education course in local and regional trauma training for professionals in the prehospital environment, the Portugal-BTLS target their training at the national level.

The BTLS-Portugal was born as a result of personal experiences and a willingness to establish mechanisms and a unique training plan to develop a systematic and integrated approach to relief and pre-hospital care in trauma situations, but also create training programs that serve the needs of professionals in undifferentiated prehospital environment, and adapted based on Portuguese reality both forensic and operational levels.

The BTLS-Portugal was built based on providing continuing education programs in content and great credibility, but small in these costs, in order to provide better accessibility, avoiding high costs for the trainee, making possible access to all offer training in a fair and viable.

The BTLS was developed in 1982 by John E. Campbell, MD, FACEP, Alabama Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. The course was based on the need for a continuing education program, quality, developing skills to professionals of emergency medical services (EMS) by ITLS-philosophy of the International Trauma Life Support, BTLS Course founders of what became the educational program internationally accepted standard for pre-hospital care in trauma.

Drawing on his pedagogical foundation was created a training program based on trauma Portuguese ITLS-Basic. However the laws in Portugal physician legal validity and protocols defined for training in pre-hospital emergency, are established in basic life support for operational undifferentiated, who are the majority within the national pre-hospital as soon as invasive techniques considered medical procedures are not practiced by these professionals.

The original ITLS-Basic in the United States due to a very different reality in this field teaches Life Saving maneuvers considered medical acts in Portugal, and once again the recognition and accreditation of this training program would be impossible, due to not suit both legal and technically in Portugal, hence the idea of creating a program BTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support) and adapted to Portuguese Portuguese reality or to the laws regarding medical and legal protocols for the conduct and training in emergency the prehospital environment.

The first trainers BTLS-Portugal was formed in 2007 operating in a combined course / trainer, in order to create training centers in Lisbon and Setúbal.

The initials that signify BTLS Basic Trauma Life Support is the definition of this training program, translating means basic life support in trauma. In Portugal for being a course created by Portuguese and Portuguese for the Portuguese in accordance with the laws of medical legal national insignia BTLS English fall on the philosophy of globalization, as Europe becomes more global and requiring greater whole culture, understanding and communication becoming BTLS-Portugal to reflect more space and better organization.
