Other Past or Current Departments and Organizations
I work for Mohawk Ambulance in Schenectady, NY. another private ambulance service based in the Capitol District area around Albany, NY.
My Training:
i'm certified as a Firefighter level II. i've done training in high angle ropes rescue and search and rescue and wilderness first aid as well. i'm also certified as a NYS AEMT-Critical Care Tech. a step below a paramedic. it's only valid in NYS so if i want to move out of NYS, i have to get my paramedic certification and get nationally registered.
Day Job:
I work at Cooperstown Medical Transport full time or more and for Mohawk ambulance part time
Relationship Status:
Single
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
i initially became a Basic EMT originally because it was something to do. Once i got into it, i realized that i loved doing this type of stuff and that i loved giving back to the community by volunteering.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
i love the opportunities that i have, SAR, Firefighting, EMS, technical rescue. i love to do it all and its a fun job. inherently dangerous sometimes, but still very fun.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
some of the top issues that i think apply to EMS/Firefighters are funding and new members. there are alot of departments that have plenty of funding and grants, but there are many smaller departments that have little funding and equipment that is old and worn down. and recruitment. smaller departments are having trouble finding people willing to join and become firefighters or EMT's and more and more, the people responding to the 911 calls are the members that have been in the department for years and years. every department faces these challenges in one way or another, but the smaller volunteer squads are hurting the most.
