Hi Aaron,
Kelley is 5 miles south of Ames & Iowa State Universty.
The garage that worked on our SUV when it broke down, is just across the street from the fire station. I thought about walking over and saying "Hi" to whomever was there. However, the trucks and ambulances were heading in and out at a pretty good rate that day so I figured it was rather busy for the crews.
Our station is volunteer and smaller than the dept. I was at , so I'm disappointed in the call load. Maybe 70-80 calls a year.
When I was with Colo Fire & Rescue we had two busy state highways that intersected, plus another section we covered for another small dept., we were also contracted to do extrication for our county ambulance service. So any call where they were called to with an intrappment, we were dispatched.
When I retire from my day job in Dec. 2009, I want get with a volunteer service that has a heavier call base. Unless, I just happen to find a full time fire job. However at my age that's not going to happen. I'll be content being volunteer.
Well, I got a bit windy but nice chatting with you.
Take Care Aaron!
Welcome to FFN, Aaron!
Glad to have you on board here...
I see you have a connection to Des Moines.
I also broke down in Raton in 2005, on my way back from California. My daughter and I spent 3 days there. The town's people were all very nice to us and getting our vehicle fixed.
Take Care Aaron!
