The queen of Washington State Ferries, and a long time fixture in the San Juan Islands, the Evergreen State was completed in 1954; the first ferry built specifically for the State Ferry System. In 2004, gold bands were painted around the vessel's funnels, to honor her 50 years of service. Relegated in recent years to the inter-island run, the Evergreen State continues to be an island favorite. In this photo, the boat is entering Friday Harbor on a chilly, extremely snowy December morning.
