IN 1978 firefighters Banded together to save leather helmets from the scrap pile "Leather forever" was the battle cry and the end result forced Cairns to build the N5a after they did everything they could to get rid of the labor intensive leather for easily processed stamped materials such as the polycarbinate MSA "topguard" "Batting helmets" as worn by Johnny Gage on EMERGENCY! ... the fight was On!!
