Tony just so you know the "looks cool" part was a sarcastic remark to lutans comment about getting rid of gear at the end of one of his posts.

White house was definately a good save, out of town apparatus was first in thunder storms ripped through the area and everyone was going crazy. Lighting strike 2nd floor rear bedroom. With all the calls going on and the apparatus that were dispatched 3 engines were on arrival and made a great stop and used a crap load of foam lol.

I've made mistakes, and learnt from them. I'd read you mistake as thinking that you can behave one way at training and another at a 'real' fire?

I had a look through you photos, som good ones there. The white house? Looks a good save. What I didn't like seeing was how many people wearn't wearing a flash hood. I don't like wearing mine, but I do. And that person up on the roof doing the cut? Not wearing his BA and no eye protection when using that sort of equipment - not good, ether of those things.

Oh, and "looks cool"? Why the hell does a firefighter need to look "cool"? Who are you trying to impress? People who think that mis-shapen, dirty helmets ? I saw a few of them too.

I wasnt saying that. Like I said every time I go out the door to a fire my ppe is worn correctly. I made a mistake just like every other firefighter in the world has made at one time or another.

Sorry if I don't share your passion to see a reduction in LODD rates the world over....

Let's go back to how we used to fight fire.

One I love my helmet never gunna get rid of that and the reason I keep the rest of the stuff IDK just looks cool........ Lutan are you serious, have you posted this stuff on every single picture on this website because certain PPE isnt worn correctly. Every time I go to a fire my ppe is worn correctly no worries.

Mistakes happen, everyone does it, no need to get all worked up over my waist strap.

Spot on Rodney!

Regardless of whether this is a training burn or not, it's a real fire, with real hazards. We MUST expect the unexpected in everything we do.

All PPE must be worn correctly, every time.

Joshua, you might be right- it may only be a slim to none chance of it coming off your back, but why risk it? The straps are there for a reason. We have SOP's that outline the correct wearing of PPE for a reason.

Hell, why not do away with the helmet? I mean seriously, when was the last time something fell on your head? Or the big boots- when was the last time we needed foot protection from sharps, heat, chemicals, etc? And while we're at it, let's get rid of gloves- I mean we protect our hands behind the water pattern don't we? And those jackets- get rid of 'em- I mean if we don't go interior, then surely we don't need that stuff do we????? ;-)

ALL P.P.E GEAR SHOULD BE WORN CORRECTLY

And lutan you would be correct the waist belt is not done up. It was a training exercise and I just did not secure the waist belt shoulder straps are nice and tight though.

Lutan: How is the waist back going to come off my back standing up with shoulder straps on?

why is everyone so quick to point out stupid stuff like a waist belt? If it was a mask not being worn, sure. But a waist belt? Come on now.
Robert, I've only very quickly skimmed over your profile and it's with interest I see that it says you've been in the service for 2 years.

What's sad though, is that in only 2 years of exposure to this job, it would appear that you have the opinion that the correct wearing of PPE at every job is, "stupid stuff".

This stupid stuff could mean the difference between life or death when it's most needed. By NOT wearing the waist belt, there's a very hich chance of that BA set coming off the wearers back, leaving them in a very compromised and dangerous position.

If we are to see a drastic reduction in the LODD rates, we MUST chnage our attitude towards our PPE and tactics....

Why is the SCBA not being worn correctly? It appears that the waist belt is not done up.
