Oakland Community College Flashover Trailer. The real deal! Flashover occurs inches from the top of you helmet. We had to put metal foil covers on our cairns 1010 traditional Hats so they wouldn't start melting. We also could only peek at the fire source for 2 seconds at a time, because the scba masks start to melt at around 400 F. Great experience and learning opportunity. I highly recommend to all Firefighters, regardless of experience, age, or type of department. The fire doesn't care who you are, so recognizing imminent Flashover and properly preventing it, or knowing what to do if you get caught in one can save your life. You have to make about 100 decisions in 2-4 seconds, and a mistake can steam kill, or burn you and your crew to death.
