Joe- please ignore my message. Some members have determined it is an "ad". Not intended that way, but just forget it.

Hey Joe- I just joined the website and saw the back page about favorite firefighter books. I live in Malibu, spent 3 years with LACoFD and CalFire preparing a novel about a boy who comes of age as a wildland firefighter at a helitak camp (Camp 8 LA County). The book has been well received and Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman of the LACoFD liked it enough to send it to the County Board of Supervisors.
Perhaps you would enjoy reading it. The title is One Foot In the Black. You can buy it on Amazon or, if you buy it from the online store of the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, they get the profits. http://wffoundation.org/webstore/index.html.
You can see reviews from firefighters on my website

Let me know what you think of it.
Thanks, stay safe – Kurt Kamm

hi thanks for the comment about my blog. i really like the look of the leather helmet. even thou im not from the US. i use a morning pride helmet. it has a nice comfortable fit on the head but its heavy. thats why im asking if leather is better regards to protection and weight i plan to buy one. our department does not have any rules in what brand or type as long is NFPA approved. We are volunteers here we buy our own equipments. most of the equipments we have are already around 20yrs old hehehe. anyway thanks again. be safe always.
