Why I Joined Fire/EMS
My father is the Asst. Chief in the district i started in, so i grew up loving the fire service, as a way to pay for college i joined our department's scholarship program, and got hooked.

Now i'm a full time Firefighter/EMT at the Burlington Fire Protection District, doing all i can to prepare myself to move forward with my career.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Its the biggest high at its best even though it can be the lowest low at its worst
Top Issues Facing Responders:
PPE. We trust it WAY too much, and it has evolved too far.

Things are pretty busy....got a full time spot about 2 towns over and have been going through their academy. They will be opening station 4 in the early fall which is the reason for the staffing increase. Other than non-academy stuff, things are pretty good, cant wait to take a vacation tho....lol.

Ian- please ignore my message. Some members have determined it is an "ad". Not intended that way, but just foreget it.

Hey Ian- I just joined the website and saw the back page about favorite firefighter books. I live in Malibu, spent 3 years with LACoFD and CalFire preparing a novel about a boy who comes of age as a wildland firefighter at a helitak camp (Camp 8 LA County). The book has been well received and Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman of the LACoFD liked it enough to send it to the County Board of Supervisors.
Perhaps you would enjoy reading it. The title is One Foot In the Black. You can buy it on Amazon or, if you buy it from the online store of the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, they get the profits. http://wffoundation.org/webstore/index.html.
You can see reviews from firefighters on my website

Let me know what you think of it.
Thanks, stay safe – Kurt Kamm
