My Training:: Right now im starting to go over FF1 and 2 so that after high school i will go to college where i will already know some of it. After college i will have a assoicate degree in fire science.

About Me:: I know i am young but i have volunteered at Galena Fire Department for three years and i love being a firefigher it is a rush at times but its fun

Day Job:: I work at a gokart track during the summer but i am still looking for another job

Why I Joined Fire/EMS: First i am a big pyro second my uncle is on and i think that it is awsome to jump in the truck full bunk gear and put out some fire.

Why I Love Fire/EMS: To hear that pager go off run around getting bunk gear on then finally jumping in the truck and go to the call

Top Issues Facing Responders:: I think training is the big factor of many fire departments

What type of firefighter are you?
Engine Engine company is the company with the balls. They go in a actually fight the fire. The only lifeline they have out is the water coming out of the hose.

At 4:21pm on March 18, 2008, Kristen said…: wow. you have no clue how jealous i am right now!!! we have been dead quiet so im just waiting for one of those days where we get like ten working calls in one day. we're due for one of them. unfortunately it will probably happen while im away for spring break. training has been pretty fun recently though, minus getting completely soaked with a white t-shirt on for sprinklers and nearly getting my arms pulled out of their sockets for RIT training (being the only junior there, i got to be the victim for most of the times) how is everything with you, in and out of the department? hope you're staying safe with all those calls!!!

At 5:14pm on March 13, 2008, Kristen said…: wow... four trucks for a brush fire! that's insane... we get nothing like that. i haven't been on a real call in ages! everything seems to be happening while i'm at school, but we got a nice basement fire with flames through the roof a couple of days ago. i had just got out of the shower after lacrosse practice, and heard the tones go off. since there was a storm outside i figured it was just wires into a tree, and i was completely beat, so i yelled down to my dad and told him i wasn't going. i regretted that the minute i looked at my pager... ugh. i really need a good call i can make!!! what good is all this training if i cant use it?!?! well, hope all is well with you!

At 7:07pm on February 5, 2008, Kristen said…: oh wow. you have been busy! we have mostly been getting false alarms, but we had this guy run his rent a car into a pole and split the pole at like 1:30 in the morning. the car flipped like 3 times and he got out and ran away. we were out looking for him for 4 hours, and we never found him. that wasnt too fun considering me and three guys from a neighboring company on the same search had to get up at 6 that morning to go to FF1. not fun. hope all is well and you are keeping safe. keep me updated on what's going on with you guys.

At 3:27pm on January 30, 2008, Kristen said…: that's awesome! we kinda had the same thing. we had six calls in one day, including a vehicle rescue and a structure in a neighboring township where we were first on scene. the same day though, another neighboring town, Pottstown, had a four alarm fire and it spread to like 4 different buildings. it's all on phillyfirenews. i =, of course, was at work and then had to babysit so i didnt make any of the calls. ugh!!! oh well.

At 6:23pm on January 22, 2008, Kristen said…: wow. you seem just as busy as us. it's been pretty quiet the last few days... i guess we get a break after that crazy day last week. i'm completely stressing over my hazmat test, and it doesnt help that my lacrosse coach is breathing down my neck about being "more committed." oh well. hope all is well with you.

p.s. i love your # 1 reason for being a firefighter... so true to all firefighters.

At 4:30pm on January 19, 2008, Kristen said…: hey. not much has been happening, but this Wednesday we had a two alarm apartment fire in a neighboring county where we were all evacuated so that was pretty fun. then, about an hour after we were dispatched for that we got a dwelling but our standby crew got there first and knocked it down. we only got to do the overhaul. then, about two hours after that call, we got a dryer fire but we put that out pretty fast. other than that day, we've been pretty quiet. I'm pretty busy with lacrosse, midterms, and FF1 classes, but I'm holding in there.
How about you? any good calls recently?
