Hey Mick. I just wanted to drop a line hoping all is well with yourself and the family. I haven't heard from you in quite some time and I can only imagine the tourist season is keeping you all pretty busy on the Island. Be well, and stay safe.

If you are still in your introspective pre-new-blog phase would you consider reviewing the work of a neophyte? I would welcome your comments on my "Last Responder not First Responder" blog.
    Thanks for your consideration.

P.S. I would ask the new "Goddess" but her avatar scares me!

  • Tiger Schmittendorf

    Thanks -

I also set one up at blogger.com: http://tigerschmittendorf.blogspot.com/

I'm toying with the graphics, which I can transfer to my main site and/or just have tigerschmittendorf.com (which is set up using a WordPress template) point to my blogspot page.

I'm not sure which I like better in terms of format and layout - Blogspot or WordPress? What do you think?
  • Tiger Schmittendorf

PS - Glad to see you got roped into the FireRescue1.com kitchen table project. I was asked to chime in as well but I'm weighing my other options.

I have a lot of opportunities all converging at once. It could get interesting.

Click or call when you get a chance and we can catch up.

It took a few days, but she gets credit for the quote. Thanks for being a great mind.

Mick. I am signing NUTCASE at Waldenbooks Sheltercove over lunch if you wanted to stop by, on Monday March 2nd

no, no, no, I did not read that in your comment . My statement was just a general statement about placing blame when such a horrific event happens. Seems like now days so many people , including our government and oversight agencies immediately look for blame. Sorry for making it sound like you were placing blame
  • Doug Cope

Chief, I just read your paper, it's very well written. Thanks for sharing.

Hey chief Got a question for ya. Im the Captain in my little vol fire dept. we don't have a truck, we got an engine, air, and brush truck. But I'm a firm believer in that you don't need a truck to do truck work. Just the tools and training. I was wondering if you could tell me how to get the bible you were talking about your group cancel the engine? I didn' join because I don't have a truck and I believe that you need them both. You compliment each other on the job if done right. Thank you!! Bull

    Now I feel lousy, Mick.

The comment I left was my attempt at humor among my partners. I shouldn't have left it and publicly apologize to you for it. One thing I'm learning is that my dry sense of humor doesn't translate well when using ones and zeroes. Not accompanied by the correct tone, such a comment invites misinterpretation- with this being a shining example.

Fire Daily has been around for all of 75 days, and I feel honored and extremely lucky to be able to post my ramblings among the greats that have been around for years. You guys have built a foundation so that newbies like me can come along and stumble their way into some form of the success you've long since earned.

I have learned much from FirehouseZen for a long time now, and I just got schooled again. You owe an apology to no one, rather I ask you for to forgive me.

I'll be adding this to my growing list confession on Wednesday.

    -Jeremy

Glad you're headed back to the Commonwealth of PA! I'll be in Pittsburgh studying but wish you well in the other corner of the state. I'll look forward to a future opportunity to catch your program.
    Keep up the good work!

  • Paul Newton

Thanks for the welcome and invite
  • Keith Farris

Thanks Mick. I'll check it out.
  • Peter Szacsvay

    Gday Mick,

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

I don't know much about fire - the SES is the jack-of-all-trades of rescue work. My unit does Road Crash Rescue, General, Vertical, Storm and Floodboat rescue, Land Search and so forth. Enough there to keep us fairly busy, especially in the storm season.

I am an old fart, so I stick to communications, operations centre work, and I do the media for the unit, plus a bit of dogs-bodying for the serious rescue people.

    Dear Mick,

Thank you for the invite to your site. I have been told that your area is a beautiful place to visit, and your photo album seems to support that view. I will check in from time to time and stay engaged.

Thanks for the welcome, Mick. Hoping to have some good talks here. Dig the blog. I am in Washington state, about an hour south of Seattle. We are a suburban department, 70 sq. miles, about 11,000 call a year with 4 fully staffed stations. We are having some definate growing pains as we expand, and just hoping to find some input from around the nation about leadership, staying focused on service, and how to keep folks always wanting to do it better. Hope all is well in SC.

I often end up laughing at myself Mick - as is the case with what you pointed out!!! Yes, of course you knew exactly what that article said, as did I because I read it before I posted... I followed the old 'assume' thing didn't I? Because I took your post as one of those oh so very frequant posts where people have read nothing apart from the thread title ROFL
  • Tony P

Looked up after typing that reply and who do I see as the starter for your photos? That lovely little lady with the pale blue top and the leopard. Nice.

You and "Blazer"? Yes, I left a comment on that one :o)
Down here it's called "Captain Koala" - the kids seem to love it! Anything that attracts attention is good - get the kids and the parents follow.
