UPPER MAKEFIELD FIRE CO. - THE YOUNGEST ORGANIZED FIRE COMPANY IN BUCKS COUNTY

Upper Makefield Fire Company, located in historic Washington Crossing, in the lower end of Bucks County, PA. has been serving those in need since 1967. Making us the youngest fire co. in the county. Today, Upper Makefield operates from two firehouses to better serve the residents of Upper Makefield Township. Our main firehouse, Station 71, is located at 1221 Taylorsville Road, in Washington Crossing, while our sub-building, Station 81, is located in Newtown, in the Upper Makefield Twp. Municipal Complex at 1076 Eagle Road. From Station 71, the company responds with one Class A Pumper, Engine 71, one Class A Rescue-Pumper, Rescue 71, one 3000 Gal. Water Tender, Tanker 71, one Special Service Vehicle, Utility 71, and two Marine Rescue Boats, Marine 71 and Marine 81. From Station 81, the company has one Class A Pumper, Engine 81 and one 4000 Gal. Water Tender, Tanker 81. We also operate two Incident Command Vehicles, which allow the chiefs to respond directly to the scene. Chief 71 is a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, used by the Fire Chief and Car 71, which is used by the Deputy Fire Chief, is a 2008 Ford Expedition.

When the company was first formed, our first engine was purchased from the Midway Fire Company, Bucks Co. Station 5. It was a 1949 Mack Pumper. Our first firehouse was located at a local construction company until a firehouse was built on Taylorsville Rd. Over the years, Upper Makefield Fire Company purchased apparatus which where already used by other departments, until when in 1985 the company purchased its first brand new truck. It was a 1985 Simon-Duplex/Grumman 55ft. RM Tele-Squirt. It was numbered as Tower 71. This unit proudly served the township until 2004, when it was replaced by the current Engine 71.

We now have about 30 active members ready to respond 24 hrs. a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a years. And our members are and have always been 100% volunteer!! Are members respond to about 200 calls per year, and take part in many hours of training each year.
