The True Volunteers

For those of us that are dedicated to being volunteers, happy working other jobs to make a living. It doesn't matter if you don't want to work full time as a paid firefighter, or the competition is too high for that high paying (hah yeah right) job

it takes a special breed of people to work Volunteer at a fire station...to be ready 24/7 while either at work or getting off from a long night of work and getting a call...I do the volunteer side of the fire dept. on weekends and to all of you out there I applaud you...to leave your families at 3 in the morning and going back to your family life takes a special kind.

My hometown -- Brookville, PA, population 4,500 -- is planning a 3-day celebration to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its volunteer fire department. It will be held September 17-18-19 of 2009. We're trying to get as many congratulatory cards and letters for the department as we can. If anyone would like to send one, here's the address: Brookville Volunteer Fire Company, 240 Madison Avenue, Brookville, PA 15825, ATTN: Century Committee.

Thank you all for letting me into your group. I started my unpaid career at Va Beach Division of fire and was there for two year. When I was discharged from the Navy I moved back to St Louis. I missed the job so I moved outside of St Louis to Imperial MO and joined the Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Dept and have been there sence 1974.
