What brand of leather helmet do you run? Mine is an '02 Cairns Sam Houston N6A. I actually bought it off eBay for $270. Got it and looked it up, the helmet is a deluxe version..its sells for about $500 or so brand new. Not a bad deal..
I wear an N5A New Yorker, I actually have 3 of them one from my time as a firefighter before becoming an officer, my white chiefs helmet and the guys bought me a new black on when i went back to being a firemen.

I have two N6A's: A red 2007, which is semi-retired (until I find a place where I can use it!) and a Black 2008 N6A for my new career department. I simply can't go back to 1010s!

are there any major differences between a new yorker and a sam houston and also, where can I get a leather front holder custom made to my design specs? I got some really good ideas and i want to get one made.
Yes, there are major differences. The N5a New Yorker has a different impact liner that wile lighter, is not NFPA compliant. The N6a has beefed up the impact liner to be compliant, but has made a considerably heavier helmet. Best to go to:
There you can study up on the difference between the two.
As for helmet fronts, I had mine made by Paul Conway, www.paulconwayshields.com. They do very good work and it is not very expensive. If you are looking at a custom shield with an art type design involving leather tooling and painting, go to the "Show us your lid" forum and search through the posts on it to find a couple of leather workers who might be able to do what you want. Might also be in the leatherheads forum.
