Im a paramedic on our pd tact team, but I can only operate at a basic level. Because our fire department is not on the county ems plan. I know it sounds stupid but it is a political world. Myself and the other tact meds do what we can (and sometimes when nobody is looking) we do more. It is easy to do and ask for forgivness after, just dont screw up. Im working on my third year and would really like to share ideas and get some insight on what others are doing out there.

Alight Tactical Medics, time to be heard. How many of you guys and gals are carrying hemostatic agents in their jump bags or vests? The list of champions include: CELOX, Quick Clot, HemCon, TraumaDEX, Act Cel, BioGlue, and sugar. Anyone packing? Have you used it? Is it on your rigs/ambulances?

Many tactical medic schools out there are very good. Dependent upon who you talk to, everybody will swear that they went to the best school. Each school has a different approach to their teaching methodology and it is a matter of marketing that gets the most students. Do not however attend a tactical medic school to receive your official shooting training. You can do this through your local agency and be certified by them in the fire arms they carry and at a fraction of the cost. Plus, this builds up the rapport with your local law enforcement agency and there are many benefits to that. For more information, please read some of my blogs and articles. I am very interested in tactical medicine, but don't find much of a need for it in my area. Our PD will call us occasionally, like when they shoot their own foot or put the tines of the taser through their fingers.... but SWAT medics are a growing craze out here, and someday there will be a need for them out here on the outskirts of Chicago. Now, I've heard of a place called the International School of Tactical Medicine where some instructors of mine went- anyone heard of it or been there? And what all will tactical school require? Physical requirements for acceptance? Specific gun licenses?
