My FD has about 30 FFs give or take a few depending members resigning & new recruits. Our budget is right around $55,000. We are currently paying about $3,500 a year for Workers Compensation. Does this seem "normal"? With the ratio of calls & members responding this seems like a lot. I KNOW we must carry the policy. Believe me they penalize you if you don't pay into it but there has to be some way to get the premiums down. Insurance is another BIG part of our budget too. We have VFIS. We are interested in looking @ other alternatives and price quotes to compare. How is everyone else coping? I would really like some feedback from you folks. Thanks. Be safe, be smart, return home.
Our firedepartment makes us pay $3 per month for member dues and we have around the same amount of personel. Is each firefighter paying $3,500 a year or is it total for the department?
That is a total for the department per year. I'm not sure how they figure the premium on each fire fighter. But we pay comp on people who don't fight fire I'm sure. I don't think dues would go over well. We give enough time & putting gas in our own vehicles etc. . without paying to be a member. That would open a whole new set of problems.
Our department is in a group of buisnesses that has worker comp as a package. This lowers your rates dramaticly. We are in the farm buerau. If your group that you are in goes thru say a year with out any injuries you will recieve a discount on your rates. last year we only had to pay out 600.00 dollars for the year.
We looked into some of the Comp issue this weekend. They classify us by the number & types of calls we run. We have a lot of fire calls & MVAs. If our call volume went down, or we had more medical runs it would drop.
our department was paying almost 5800 per year on 25 members. I spoke with our state reps concerning this and got nowhere. we are no to about 3,000 for 20 members but that is too much for any volunteer department to pay.
We raise money to buy our protective gear, run our stations, answer calls, meet trainning requirements and such.........we should not have to pay the State of Ohio for insurance to cover us while providing the services we do for free.
We just got our bill for the year for workers comp. For 21 people the total bill would be at 2200.00. With the group we are in our bill is right 500.00 for the year.
