Yea, I know I'm always in here talking about F.D. websites and I was the terd that said they "usually" suck, but what about using your site as a fundraiser?
What if you could offer advertising/sponsorship pages to businesses in your community?
Tell them for $50/yr you'll put their business card/logo on your site. It'd be the EASIEST fund raiser you ever had in my opinion. Heck, make it $100/yr and get 20 sponsorships and you'd be just fine. Trust me, $100/year for advertising is down right silly cheap.
I said they "usually" do. Not all do, but aesthetically many of them are very poorly done or not kept up-to-date.
I honestly believe that a website is a form of communication and if your message isn't clear or even hard to understand you run the risk of people not taking you seriously.
I've been doing this as a volunteer for a long time and I have more respect for the service than most of the general public, but it also saddens me to see us do such a poor job at communicating exactly who we are and why we are important. A well maintained and properly executed website could do just that.
Hey Chris, I think your idea is an excelent one and your right, The overhead of doing such a thing is very low, little to none. I am very intrested in learning more about it and any ideas you might have.
