Locally, here in Pittsburgh, one of our television news stations did an investigative report on the types of smoke detectors available and the differences between them, which works better, etc. and some concerns regarding the ionizing smoke detectors and the benefits of dual sensored ones. I got to thinking of a white paper document done in 2006, and thought about the statistics relating to the homes out there that do not have working or any smoke detectors at all. I further got to thinking how to combat the cost of smoke detectors and get them in more homes. We have several telethons out there. In Pittsburgh, we have one to get coats out to the needy, "Project Bundle Up", and one to support our Children's Hospital, one to get Thanksgiving turkeys to the needy, and of course, the MDA telethon. My question is; Do you think a telethon to raise money to fund smoke detectors is a viable option to get more in our communities? I have submitted that idea to that investigative reporter that did that story and I'm awaiting his or the station's response. Thank you for your responses. Stay safe!
