This year I actually got some of my ideas to pass from the Chief. This year we will be participating in Delivering Fire Prevention. This is a program set up through Children's Hospital and the Safe Kid's Coalition. What you do is find a pizza place that delivers, and get them to donate four to six pizzas. They take the call and ask if the customer has children between the ages of newborn to fifteen, if they do, we deliver a pizza to the home with an engine, and their delivery driver in tow. If the family has a working smoke detector the pizza is free. If they do not have a working smoke detector the Safe Kid's Coalition give them a detector to install. The pizza place we use takes it one step further and donates the entire order.
The second thing we are doing this year is a Safety Day. This takes place at our station through the county emergency management. So we not only touch on fire prevention, but we have the dive team, police, CERT, electric company, and many others. The department I was on before this one actually got Flight for Life, DEA Helicopter, and the Army Reserve Medic Helicopter.
The third is visiting a Senior Care Facility and providing fire safety for the senior residents at the facility.
I am still pushing to get the Energizer campaign, Change your Clock, Change your Battery. If you are interested, it's probably too late for this year, but you can check it out at
