How many of you have are seeking or have obtained advanced degrees in fire investigation? Where are you getting it from or how is it going? education is never a waste if it enhances your ability to do your job
There are many certification's and classes that an investigator can get: NFPA Fire Investigator, National Fire Academy has a selection of classes and IAAI Certified Fire Infestigator just to name a few. There are only a few colleges in the country that offer a degree in fire investigation. Wish I had a degree in it because it would be just one more item that would lead to credance when in court.
The trend appears to be moving towards engineering degree requirements in order to qualify as an expert witness. This is anticipated in the next 5 to 10 years. The more scientific education you can get, the better you will be.
I have an Engineering degree, and will be completing a Bachelors of Science degree in Fire & Emergency Management. I also hold my CFI, CFEI, CFII, and CVFI, member of NAFI, IAAI, and NFPA and have 16 years experience in FI.
