I would personally hunt a food plot, but only if you have been scouting and knowing there are deer there. Food plots for me have worked the best taken a couple nice bucs out of food plots in Wisconsin.

Put yourself between the food plot and the bedding area, best of both worlds! If they skip around your food plot area, you still catch them in the act if they head for the bedding area. During the rut, put yourself on the food plot nearest the water, them bucks are creatures of habit, but all habit is gone once the rut starts

Here's a picture of an Oceola Turkey I shot in April of this yr. Weighed 19lbs and had a 9" beard and 7/8" spurs. Got him on the last day and last 1/2 hour of the hunt.

I like the food plot more myself because of the wide open steady shot that you are provided, however the hunt between the bedding area and the food will provide you with a better chance at the real trophy that is hiding in the area, and like Vic said I have had success in both areas just depnds on what I am looing for that day, MEAT, CULL, TROPHY?

thanks for the info.......i have found if you can find a sho nuff bedding area then you'll have success because the deer can have alternate food sources but have for the most part one main bedding area and most of the time its in the swamp where I hunt.
I have tried following a deer trail and it's nearly impossible because they can navigate some pretty awful stuff i have done decent on food plots also...but I have actually done the best stalking................

food plots becaouse u dont spook as many deer off of them as you do bedding areas. around here once the deer get kicked from thier bedding area they are gone.
