We started using bio diesel in all of our tractors about two years ago and I have to say that it has been great for all of my tractors. They have gained power and they don't smoke near as much. I was just wondering if any of you use it or what do you use and how do you like it?
It works in all diesel powered equipment and has a few different formulations B2, B10 and B11 to name a few. Here in Illinois if you use the B11 Version (89% diesel and 11% Soy Gold ) all State sales tax is waived on your purchase price. Just be careful that the oil you use is a high quality product mixed is of the highest quality. I have heard of problems associated with the use of vegatable oil products for the bioproduct portion of the mixture. By being in the coop business and hauling fuel occasionaly I do know that sometimes when the tempurature is low that the soy oil gets thick enough that it sometimes doesn't want to flow out of the tanks. ( Note : This is prior to being mixed with the diesel fuel. ) Also as with Alcohol fuel blends the biodiesel is a great product that a first has a tendency to clean up the fuel systems and you should be aware that you may need to change filters a couple of times when first starting the biofuels programs. Also the exhaust smells like you have been frying french fries sometimes when using the biodiesel.
