Adam,

You should not have too much trouble since the Army firefighters go to the Air Force for training. Our Regulations have less numbers than the USAF ones. Most of rules and operations come from the air Force. You may have to pick up a rifle a few more times, but that depends on the units mission.
I am currently serving in the United States Army and am deployed to Iraq at this time. We are finishing up on a 15 month deployment and will be home soon. I am a volunteer and can not wait until I can get back to volunteering. I will be relocating, due to my unit moving and hope to get on a volunteer department in my new area of assignment.
I was with the 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. Stationed out of Fort Irwin, CA. Spent OIF III at F.O.B. Kalsu. I was a gunner on the personal security detachment for our Squadron CO. 4 months later I was promoted and became the squad leader for our CSM's personal security detachment. If you're looking on maps, F.O.B. Kalsu is about 1/2 way between Al Hillah and Baghdad literally about 100 meters West of Route Tampa. I believe you can actually google the base and look at the map, it's pretty outdated now from what I've heard.

ETS'd August 26, 2006 with 8 total years. Back as a civilian now, serving as Fire Chief for the Hawley Volunteer Fire Department, Hawley, TX...Stay low, stay alert... God Bless.
Nobody said which Army, so I've jumped right in.

Australian Regular Army from Jan 1969 to Jan 1971. I've been around for a while... I didn't see active service in Vietnam, my unit sent our guys the stuff they needed to do their job.

Now I'm a full-time volunteer firefighter.
Hi Adam, I was a recruiter for the Army Reserves and things may have changed since the early 2000's but at that time prior service did not have to go back through basic training if they went reserves. Firefighting is only offered as a job on the reserve side. Check with your area recruiter for the latest and to see if a firefighting unit is in your area.
