After about 9 months as an EMT I was working a shift at my school's Rec Center in the first aid room, and in walks this guy and his friend. They'd come to me from the weight room because he'd dislocated his shoulder while lifting. The kid had a posterior dislocated shoulder. I sent him to the hospital with his hand on his head and a bag of ice on his shoulder. so far that is the first and only dislocated shoulder I have seen.
I understand from things I've read that anterior dislocations are more common than posterior. In your opinion/experience how common is it to see shoulder dislocations and is it more likely to be anterior vs posterior?
yes, the hand on his head was comfortable for him. it was the only position that we found to help the pain. and resting on his head it relaxed some of the tension in the arm muscles and was an easier position for him to hold.
