Work Man's Comp
I was just wondering your opinions when it comes to having to use Work Man's Comp. I know several of my friends that have had nightmarish experiences with them. And, also a few that have had a good experience.
One person inparticular, injured his back moving a heavy patient, it took him 4 years before workman's comp would pay for the surgery he needed.
Another just had his neck worked on, and had no problem what so ever with them.
What do you think?

I have had an experience or two with work comp and so far i have nothing good to say. I injured my back while on duty in 2002 and learned that I had to burn up or use all of my annual leave and sick leave before work comp would kick. It was approximately 6 months after having exhausted all my leave hours before the first work comp check kick in which left me in an awful deep financial hole. Creditors did not understand and my less than 2 yr old truck was repossed alon g with the brick home I was living in and my savings depleted. It took approximately 16 months before my surgery was approved and then another 4 months of rehab therapy on my back to be able to return to full duty. I can tell you that the entire ordeal put a tremendous amount of pressure on marriage and family life and my employer tried to remove me from being employed with dept. of defense. I now find myself needing a seconde surgery and employer is ready to push me out the gate forever. So watch your back and your bank account and make sure you have plenty of cash stashed in the event you do have too go out on an injury. Also prepare your self for a tremendous amount of paperwork. Problems come from history....There have been way too many trying to get something for nothing....so now when the honest person needs it they seem to go through hell to get it....The key is documentation and keep copies of EVERYTHING....if you get hurt let someone know immediately and in writing.....Paul

I just recently got injured during a training at the fire academy, i hurt my rt shoulder stopping mysef from going head first down stairs. I did this on May 28, 2009. I am still awaitingn approval to get an MRI and to start PT. I am also having to use my regular benefits from my job at the hosp. since I was injured as a volunteer firefighter. Ive been told it may take awile and to get a workman's comp lawyer, which I did.
