San Diego Fire Department reported a vehicle accident involving a Firetruck on Northbound Interstate 5 early this morning around 0100hrs, the Twitter report indicated that a injured Firefighter was transported by ambulance after the accident.

Update: San Diego (CA) FD Engine Company 44 was blocking traffic on I-15 for a crash when another civilian vehicle crashed into the engine company at a high rate of speed. The Firefighter/Engineer was reportedly setting up more cones and was hit (read on) and was thrown into the air. While injured he never loss consciousness, he was treated and then transported in stable condition. The vehicle that hit E44 was occupied by a family of 3, including a child and the Father is critical with the others injured in unknown conditions at this time.
Initial reports are that the engine was blocking and protecting the scene and the speeding vehicle came through cones and hit the fire apparatus, actually moving it several feet. The injured Firefighter/Engineer was paying attention and was able to see the high speed car coming and ran behind corner of the apparatus. When the apparatus was struck, the apparatus hit the Firefighter/Engineer and flipped him in the air ten feet. We wish the FF a rapid recovery from this close call. Update via The Secret list: Link

Altho we hate to hear that one of our brothers was injured, it could have been alot worse if the apparatus hadnt been where it had!!

Stay safe to all!
good thing he was paying attention.. i know it is very dangerous out there.. i have almost been hit a few times..
hope he is recovered fully and aint working and hurting hisself worse

The impact of the crash was so intense that a 3,000 pound vehicle caused major damage to a 47,000 pound fire engine.

"They came full speed. They were able to move this rig a couple of feet when they made impact. That's how hard they hit,"
Hopefully, all involved will have a complete and speedy recovery. Had the same thing happen in Houston last week.
Block the road. The whole damned road if needed. (OK, we are allowed to do this, I know not all people are as lucky). But as has been shown with this incident, even the act of blocking the road is extremely dangerous. I hope all those injured recover quickly - including the driver of the car, so that he can make a visit to court...
