If I told the truth someone would say I'm in it for the wrong reason. So I'll just say it's all about being a selfless civil servant and seeing the smile on a little kid's face. Yeah, that's it.
I love being in the fire service to help people and to save lives and property. There is a great feeling after every call knowing you helped someone one way or another. I also enjoy interacting with the comunity and seeing children waive as you pass by.
I am in the fire dept because when my family was in need of help they were there. My brother was missing for 4 days and the fire dept was the one that got the ball rolling in the search. My brothers body was found and a fire fighter was the one who had to identify his body. I give many thanks to the fire dept for their time and love they showed my family. I joined the ambulance because at the time I was a nursing student. I wanted to give back what was given to me. So many thanks to those out there who help others in their time of need.
this is something i've wanted to do since i can remember, my dad was a volunteer when i was younger, and i remember going to the fire house and seeing all the gear an what not, the smells and what not. my great grand father was the first fire man in bagdad Az, my uncle is on the same dept. we have family friends in NY who is a chief and he's been in the dept since he was in high school. it's a family thing and runs through the blood. my every day job is boring enough and it's so repetative that it's boring even more. when those tones drop it's the adrenaline rush i love the knowing and not knowing what i am going to encounter. it's different every time. i'm also in college finishing my ff 1 and ff 2 and i hope on day to be a career fire fighter but if that doesn't happen being a volunteer, i can still do what i love and help my community when they call us.
