We were sitting around the firehouse table the other day talking to a couple of rookies and the subect came up (as it always does) of what tools do you carry with you in your turnout gear an how do you carry them...

So, In my right bunker pants pocket I carry 20' of 1" tube webbing and a carabiner. In the left side is a back-up flashlight and IV set up pack.

In my right jacket pocket in a old "hose pouch" I have channel locks, screwdriver, punch and knife.

In the left side I have Door chocks, nails, shove knifes, 8' section of webbing...

How about you guys?

How many of you out there know what your partner carries...? I feel it is important to know each others "talents" and what he/she brings into the fight.....I carry probably more than I should...but here goes...Pants..left pocket my gloves and hood, right pocket a 6:1 rescue tool, and a multi tool...Jacket left pocket...extra flashlight, hose strap, small bundle nails; right pocket...30 feet life rated webbing and 2 life rated carabiners and a rescue knife. I can find it all without a look or a thought....my partner also knows what I have and where...Hose strap I catch a little ribbing for...but I have had to man a line for extended periods before when short handed and it is a comfort measure to have access to one...besides with the strap I can also easily handle a 2 1/2 alone for exterior ops when it is a "surround and drown" situation...Stay safe....Keep the Faith....Paul

DT, You can't carry on, or you won't have stop LOL
In my left coat pocket, I carry 2 spanners-one folding type and one that I found on top of my locker. It has a hose spanner, a gas wrench, a couple of open-end wrenches, and a box-end that is perfect for a GM side-post battery(it has come in handy on a couple of wrecks where I couldn't get to the cable to cut it). In my right coat pocket, I carry a pair of cable cutters. In my left leg pocket, I carry a 30-foot hunk of rope. In my right leg pocket, I carry a pair of fencing pliers. Great multi-purpose tool; has a hammer head, a pick head, wire cutters, and pliers- all in one tool. I carry my wedges and door stops, along with 2 Garrity Life-Lights, on my helmet.
I'll Harri-Cari, if you'll show me how!:) I remember that episode of MASH-LOL
Carry on my wayward son...there'll peace when you are done
Jake:
There is a simple test for this:
Have everyone take everything out of their turnouts.
Set up a 40 yard course. Have a stop watch.
Have them run the 40 for time.
Then rehab them, let them smoke a cigarette and have them put everything back into their pockets.
Have them run the 40 again.
My guess is some won't even finish the course and if anyone falls down while running, you'll probably need a harness and tri-pod to get them back to their feet.
Carry an energy bar and dog treats in your pockets.
Get your tools from the truck!
TCSS.
