WALL-E Movie threat to the fire service? Or am I just an overzealous dad?

I sat and watched the new Disney/Pixar movie WALL-E today with my sons. There wasn't a lot else to do on a snow day. But now to my point, has any one else that has seen this movie disturbed about the lighter scene between WALL-E and EVE that takes place about 30 minutes into the movie.

The scene shows Wall-E and EVE playing with a "ZIPPO" lighter then of all things dropping it. In a day and age where we have fought to have lighters made safe from child tampering, and we all spend time teaching fire prevention to kids, the last thing we need is for Disney/Pixar to send children the wrong message that playing with a "Zippo" lighter is OK or fun to play with.

If you agree you can let Pixar know of your concerns by e-mailing them at publicity@pixar.com .
I know I am going to.

I agree with you this this is something that should have been edit befor the movie came out but then again the old mighty dollar is more importent
My 3 year old grandson was watching this the other day. When that scene was on, he kept saying "NO". I asked him no what and his reply was "don't play lighters".

It seems he learns more from the fire prevention videos I bring home than I thought. I comes down to supervision and parenting.

Folks, ANY show (including Barney and Sesame Street) can be picked apart for what ever reason. Kids do not live in a vacuum. This stuff is out there, it will continue to be out there, and we the parents/guardians have the responsibility of explaining right and wrong. The other alternative is to have the child sit in a corner and stare at the wall until they are 18.
Oldman, thank you and that was what I was saying.
it's just not on that show. it's all over the tv. like you said, fire dept. teach kids not to play with lighters or matches but the parents we days don't really ocare until we have to call 911 because there house is flames and there kid is still inside, because we don't know what happen because the kids weren't being watchby the parents.
And I totally agree. But what about the parents that don't think the way we think. Shouldn't we (the community) at least try to present correect behaviour to all children? Especially in things like this movie that are aimed directly at young children?

I say again, what about the parents that don't teach their children properly - and don't tell me that such parents don't exist in your community!
That's where good parenting comes into play. Exlain to your kids that playimg with lighters is wrong. There's a lot of bad influence on TV and in movies. We as parents just need to educate our children in the lost art of knowing right from wrong.
I am not a fan of movies designated for an intended audiance of youths under the age of 10 to have violence, playing with fire, or general adult themed comments. I think if they can't create a movie without this type of material, they shouldn't create a movie. Children ages 10 or below are more likely to mimic the actions of animated charectors without knowing the dirrerence between right and wrong until the action is already done. (there are documented cases of youth violence drawn from television shows and movies)

However being of sound mind I know that is only my wishes and opinions and they generally don't tote the weight of a major film company. Is it right, no. Is it going to keep happening, yes.
