This is a song my friend and I wrote last February. We dedicated it to a local young firefighter lost in the line of duty as well as to all volunteer firefighters willing to lay down their life for their fellow man.

"Volunteer"

Quarter 'till two in the morning,
pager goes off, he rolls over to listen.
There's been a wreck on the highway with injuries.
Hollers ten-eight on the way to his truck; he's gone.

He's a volunteer twenty-four, seven days a week.
No matter what it is, he'll do what it takes.
If it means his life he'll give it...
He's a volunteer, that's what he does.

Just pulled a double at the factory,
he hears his radio go off-- it's their tone.
"Guess another hour or two won't hurt him,"
he says as he turns his flashers on.

He's a volunteer twenty-four, seven days a week.
No matter what it is, he'll do what it takes.
If it means his life he'll gladly give it...
He's a volunteer, that's what he does.

We all hear the chief holler get back to the station,
he'll let them know what's going on.
There's been an accident,
a volunteer has fallen.
They all bow their heads and say,

He was a volunteer twenty-four, seven days a week.
He was a brother and a friend.
He volunteered his life so someone could live.
He's a volunteer.

God bless the volunteers...
