(AP) WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah

A 6-year-old child was burned over 30 percent of his body after accidentally setting his shirt on fire while playing with gasoline and a lighter in his West Valley City yard.

West Valley City Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Fox says the child ran into his home after his shirt was set on fire Monday night. Fox says his parents removed the shirt, then slathered sour cream on his body.

The child suffered second-degree burns on his chest, back and both arms.

He was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center in serious condition.
