The paid FF leave their gear at their station unless they are one of the 20 floaters in the department.
Each member of our department is issued a full set of gear. The gear belongs to the fire department, not us, and we sign paperwork agreeing to be respectful of it. Most of the volunteer staff bring their gear home or keep it in their vehicle. There is also a gear rack in the hall which is reserved for drivers and interior firefighters who can get to the hall fast enough to catch a ride on an engine.
Your gear is your responsibility. We have equipment for cleaning it if needed at the hall and we have a yearly inspection program to make sure everything's accounted for and in good condition.
