turnout gear colors

Okay well I looked around a bit and didnt find this topic yet, suprised me but maybe I missed it. What is everyones favorite turnout gear colors here? Personally I myself prefer tan for the higher visablity then black. For some reason my companys torn between black and tan most of the older guys prefer the black and most of the younger guys like myself perfer tan what does everyone else think and why?

ok take it from this point in the summer time when it is 120+ out side your in black gear and you come out of the fire to cool off and rehab the black will not help you out at all. most departments will let you take off the jacket but not the pants so you will still be hot .
go with the yellow or PBI they are better.

when it is 120+ outside the only thing that will help you out in rehab is to REMOVE the gear. Having Tan or black gear at this point would be null and void.

We have tan gear with green and silver reflective strips. I really see not much difference in cooler or hotter in the summer. Fighting fire any time in the summer is hot. But we also have yellow jump suits for wild land fires.

I was wondering if you knew if the tan color is the same color for all brands of turnout gear (i.e. Globe, Morning Pride, etc.). Are there different shades of tan or do most gears match up pretty close? I only ask because I found some used gear I would like to purchase from ebay. They are both (jacket and pants) described as tan but they are from different manufacturers and I don't know how well the two pieces will match together. Thank you for any help.

Who cares? Wear what you're issued. The color doesn't change the gear.

We currently use the globe gx-7 in black with yellow/silver triple trim reflective pkg in high visibility pattern, plus the trim goes down the legs and around the cuffs , The black gear is not hotter in the summer and requires the same washing maintanence and inspections as all the other gear, but due to cost increases for black and red gear in the future we will probably be switching to the tan due to budget costs , As for my option in colors "don't care" as long as it does the job and meets the specs jmo

I've seen severl road construction crews where the guy with the STOP/SLOW sign was wearing a jacket and pants that were Hi-Viz lime green with silver reflective striping. How long do you think it'll be before the fire service adopts turnout gear in that style? Although there will still be the narrow minded among us who will refuse to wear it.
