Check out NFPA 1410. There are a lot of standardized drills.
FirefighterClosecalls.com has some good drills, I have used some here in my volunteer department and the guys seem to have enjoyed them.
One thing that doesn't get too much exposure, and is not really taught in the books.. sorta kinda - public relations.
Have a rig and it's crew just take a tour into a neighborhood in their coverage area, and park on a street or near a park or something. It usually does not take long for parents and their kids to come around and want to look at the rigs. Good time for them to meet a firefighter, and it doesn't ever hurt to give the people a look see at what it is they are actually paying for. Of course make sure you have your gear with you. Kids love to try on helmets and coats.
Be ready to respond though. All that hard work of gaining a good image from the public could be gone in a heartbeat if you have to go home to get your gear before going to the job.
Just something different from the same ole same ole.
Periodically we will perform over the embankment rescues.....without leaving the hall. We will hook up our lines, safety/rescue etc....and hook into the basket and with the pulleys/caribeaners, etc , we will simulate a rescue. It gives all the members an opportunity to freshen up on knots as well.
Thanks for all the suggestions...It's greatly appreciated.
