Tool Handle's

What have ya'll done to get a better grip on your tools? Tools such as your axes, halligans, sledgehammers, etc...

I understood your meaning perfectly Mike, it makes sense in a large department like yours with up to three shifts of firefighters all with different opinions and styles, if everyone was allowed to just modify a tool on spot without permission it would be mass chaos, not to mention hell on the tool budget. I can definitely see the need for the approval, it shows respect to other firefighters and the way they like to work.

I guess its easier here in my small town volunteer department, there are only 9 of us interior firefighters. If we want to change a tool it takes 15 minutes of discussion at a drill and its done...No muss no fuss!

Well we ended up twisting the tape and covering it with a layer. It worked AWESOME! Thanks for all the input!

Yes, it makes a considerable difference especially when your gloves are wet or beginning to "ice" over from the elements. Also, the twisting of the tape and the rope serves the same purpose and we put tape over top. Either way works great!

What I have found that works even better than twisting tape is a clothes line wrapped around the handles in a criss cross pattern and then hockey tape over that.
